The top 1,000 hits of my lifetime ... let's try this again!

I began blogging the top 1000 of my lifetime a few days ago. But as I got into the project, I realized the formulas I’d used just weren’t working. So I pulled down what I had done and started over.

Let’s try this again; I’m pretty happy with the list now. Rankings are based on performance of the song at the time it was popular on the Billboard pop charts. Since the charts have behaved differently in different eras, I’ve applied a weighting system to give each era fair representation across the list. That was the "math is hard" part!

So here are numbers 1000 through 951. What are your favorites in this first segment? What songs do you never want to hear again?

  1. After looking at this, I went back and watched the video to Regulate (on YouTube) for the first time in about 15 years. I thought that song was so cool way back when....

  2. Elizabeth -- Yeah, I was working at KUBE 93 when that was at the height of its popularity. I remember that they bleeped out the word "gangsta" but didn't bleep out the part about getting high every day.

While the sound of the song is still VERY cool, the violence in it is more than a little disturbing ...

  3. It sure is! I definitely did not understand the subject matter when I used to listen to it. I didn't know you worked at KUBE 93--I listed to that for a year or two in junior high, and recognize many of these songs from that time (Boombastic is another one I used to love, and I was a HUGE Coolio fan). What a trip down memory lane....

  4. Sure is strange what they "beep" out. It's the same with cartoons. They cut some of falling scenes in Road Runner Coyote cartoons, but other shows that show that beating up rivals is the way to go are A.O.K.

    What gives?
